Textos não traduzidos não são praxe nesse blog. Mas eis um caso em que isso justifica-se. Sérgio Dias Baptista esteve de passagem por Londres no fim do mês passado e falou com a sempre mais que competente reportagem do The Independent. Na verdade, o texto não tem informações novas, e é até um pouco frustrante de tão enxuto. Mas é sempre interessante saber como os gringos olham pra gente e para os nossos heróis.
The Beatles scholar Ian MacDonald has described the spirit of the 1960s as "comparable to the joy of being let out of school early on a sunny afternoon". In the case of the Brazilian musician Sérgio Dias, few images could be more apt. In 1963, at the age of 12, he left his school in Sao Paulo to play the guitar.Aqui a seqüência de "Sérgio Dias: The Boy From Brazil".In 1966, he formed the puckish psychedelic pop band Os Mutantes with his brother Arnaldo and Rita Lee, his childhood friend and Arnaldo's sweetheart; they were, respectively, 15, 18 and 19. A year later, Os Mutantes would play the song "Domingue (sic) No Parque" with the Bahian protest singer Gilberto Gil at the 1967 TV Record Music Festival.

Fleshy jowls and salt-and-pepper hair aside, at 54, Dias still has the air of a 1960s love child as he sits strumming his guitar backstage at a Brazilian bar in central London. In half an hour, he'll play his first concert in this country. Yet he is on his own.
